My Beautiful Place

Far beyond the exhausted sun... a paradise comes alive! The sun hulas across the island to capture the essence of paradise.

Mysterious, rare creatures dart around the island desperately, looking for anything crunchy to munch on. Water trickles down the water fall, like tears collapsing onto a pillow of candy floss. Light winds swoop the leaves off their feet and dance under the banana-shaped sun.

An immense flavour oozes between my teeth tempting me to dream. A mountain of divine raspberry fruit, melts blissfully in my mouth. What a sweet taste! Tears of white chocolate dive down dramatically from the blank blue sky shimmering like diamonds under the oven-like sun . Beautiful blue candy floss bounces in between brazillian butterflies causing them to splutter in surprise.

An exotic, fragrant smell of banana leaves fizz under my nose like fireworks. Sea water pushes small parcels of their strong smell into the weak air. The smell of a Samoan umu flutters across the island. Tongan meals being prepared by gum gum bears are already nearly running out. The smell of a Maori hangi hangs above my head making me lick my lips.

My eyes flutter with excitement as coconuts fall down like crazy. My veins giggle with excitement. Frosty air dances like a bunch of hooligans. Velvet pieces of cake served into my hands by grape-coloured ice creams.

White polar bears sing goodnight. Day throws in night as if controlled by a flick of a switch.Fire cackles aways into the night.

Under the moon light glow, lays my paradise...sound asleep.

Piri Weepu Description

It was windy as I looked out from the stadium to see Piri Weepu... Slapping his arms here and there rapidly. My mother sighs, pointing out at my father “Ah, look at how big he’s grown. Right down from when he was a little bub in 1983, but look at him now, I’ll bet he’ll even invade another pass exactly the same when he was a young boy.”

Bring it on his eyes seemed to say as he was doing the pukuna, intimidating the other team. “It’s time for Mr Piri Weepu to kick off the rugby world cup with his fascinating kick! oh yeah!” Says the commentator quickly, “Piri Weepu kicks off the striped ball!...He scores!! hallelujah! Thank you Lord! God bless Piri Weepu!” Yells the reporter from France jumping up and down like a crazy monkey!

Piri Weepu stretches his arm out to bulldoze all the other players out of his way sprinting hardcore to the try line. Doing it for his baby girl(true fact). Boy is he fast he must have been training so hard! I think he deserved to be here!

His tattoo guiding him along the side line. He dives under the rugby post. Piri stands up as fast as the wind, muscles pumping in excitement. His black eyes shining in the with pride, he took a quick glance at the cup(trophy). One more try... and they win.

His black hair stood up on all edges of his head as he saw another player running madly towards the try line! Piri Weepu just missed by being hit by another Rugby athlete. He moves as fast as a bullet towards the man and ... tackles him. He snatches the ball and runs toward his try line. Just one more metre and he’s finished . Score ! He made it! Yes!! Yes!!

The reason why this moment is special is how fast the pride in him sprawled quickly across his body. Ah... that was a special moment.

Buddy Writing - Welcoming Tonga

As I drove into the airport, I was shocked to see a sea of red, white and brown. There were people singing and dancing with pride.I could see cameras clicking away happily, the sound of laughter ringing in my ears.I started to cover my eyes,as Tongans
rushing past me to get to the front so they could see the rugby players, people are jumping up and down with excitement shouting “GO TONGA!”

I tried pushing my way through the crowd but I couldn't find my way through! I heard the Tongans screaming as loud as possible. I was stunned. Some of the the Tongan rugby players were marching onto the stage. Smiles were printed in their faces. They were exhausted from the flight.

They were tall and looked very strong. They were happy to represent their country . Although they were in a different country they still had the support . The Tongan rugby team performed an enthusiastic haka tau for their supporters and their country .

Everyone was exhausted, it’s because they had been waiting for hours in the boiling weather, for this .

Maori Village Description

I hit the ground with my eyes opening wide admiring the view. I stood up and dusted my clothes off then I looked at the village with their rotten fences with white creamy blankets lying dead on the fence. I got distracted when I walked through the gates because people started eying me out like I had come from another planet...but I had come from another time. My clothes were were red and when I saw them staring at me I blushed as red as my t-shirt.

I strolled some more then I froze in my tracks. I heard the poi smashing against each other then all the men shouting with their thunderous voices. Then I heard the ladies singing smoothly with their soft voices. I heard birds’ wings flapping hard as they were chirping away like a buzzing bee. One of the ladies saw me and rushed towards and said “Kei te waiata maatou.” I did not know what she said. There was an awkward silence until we heard the stomping and the swishing of the piupiu like a ballerina darting around.

I walked some more until I could not bare it. The smoke of the hangi was welcoming me to the side of the whare kai. The men were hurrying around grabbing all the manuka wood they saw. I started coughing when I smelt the smoke. With the nice smell of chicken, pork (pig) and the other delicious things, I let out a ”Mmmmm..’’ I went closer to the whare kai. I felt the low roof top brush against my head. After 7 hours, the hangi was cooked! I saw a wave of people storming into the whare kai waiting to be fed, but they could not eat until they had said the karakia.

I ran out side to see that the time travelling machine had returned to take me back. I shouted “Haere ra!” To the village. I smiled and then I closed my eyes and I was flashed away.

The time machine finally let my feet touch the ground and my teacher Miss Kyla came running out with Room 8. She asked me “ How was the trip? We have a million questions to ask!”

“Then what happened?” My sister asked butting in. I replied “Well they all asked me questions then we went back to work.” “Amazing...” My sister whispered into my ears “Yes.” I agreed

Maths Pirate Ship

On Wednesday the Stars went outside to do our maths (measuring) we had to use a metre ruler to make our nice pirate ship. We used chalk and the rulers because we had to make a perfect pirate ship. Everyone in the Stars had to do 2 pirate ships each because when we started it was crooked. Our ship had to be 4 meters long then we had to draw an upside down semi-circle and then we drew ourselves holding a 2 meter fishing rod with a 50 centimetre fish. Finally we decorated our ship and took a photo. Here is a photo of what we did!

My goals for term 2

Term Two Learning Goals

My learning goal for Reading this term is:
To try and read more than two books a week. I want to make it to the highest reading age.
To achieve this goal, I will need to:
Replace my game time and t.v time as reading time so that I can focus on my reading goal and read more and bigger chapter books. If I can believe that, I can reach the highest reading level.
My whanau can help me achieve this by:
Supporting me with this goal and taking me to the library to pick out my reading books, like big chapter books.

My learning goal for Writing this term is:
To make sure I am using the right punctuation in the right way and make sure I use all my capital letters correctly.
To achieve this goal, I will need to:
Write my own little test and get my older brother or older sister to mark it for me and then she can tell me how well I am doing.
My whanau can help me achieve this by:
Giving me a challenge and then they can mark it like Miss Hansell does.

My learning goal for Maths this term is:
To learn my times tables and division faces for bigger numbers.
To achieve this goal, I will need to:
Find a site like ‘tut-pup’ and maybe try the dividing stage so that I can be good at it.
My whanau can help me achieve this by:
Testing me only with the dividing part and times-tables.

My personal goal this term is: to be a happy and an encouraging older sister to my little brother and get him ready for the day

To achieve this goal, I will need to:practice how to be a supporter like when my little brother knows he is going to loose a game of snakes and ladders I always say just keep on playing even if you loose at least you tried it

My whanau can help me achieve this by:my family can help me to achieve this goal by playing another game of snakes and I can encourage them

Marae Trip Recount

My Marae Trip

My heart leaped as  I tingled with excitement . We marched down to the hall with our bags and packed with our delicious lunch. We got serious, when the principal told us the rules on a marae. Before we left, our Principal gave Arapeta and Khylie a good luck taonga (necklace). Then we walked to the bus chattering our mouths off.  While we drove to the marae  we had the gorgeous Ms Hansell.  Finally we made it to the marae.

For me I was asking myself too many questions so I  snapped at myself saying  “be quiet.” I listened to the kaumatua as he told us the history about the marae . The story I remember was when he told us that when Queen Elizabeth was coming to visit New Zealand,  the government came to the Orakei marae.  Do you know the Okahu bay park? There used to be a village there, but the government came and bashed the houses down and booted the people up the hill to live in the houses they built.  I thought it was quite sad. I felt so sorry. I was wondering did they tell them they were going to boot, them up the hill?  Or did they just do it with out telling them?

Next we had morning tea. The only thing I thought of saying was .’Eat your life out.” Because we’re going back to learn how to use a poi and the boys are learning how to do a haka. The best part for the girls was that some of the girls got the long red poi. When we were finished doing our poi part, it was time for the other crew to do their part .which was when they had to do the actions.  Then it was time to do the storming sticks.

After a long time of practicing our beautiful items, we had to go eat our yummy lunch.  Some people were buzzing like bees about what we had learnt in our items and it sounded to me that people were ready to show off their Maori poi skills. we strolled  back to the marae.  We were handed our poi for our item.  The girls started off with their item. I felt nervous. So nervous, I wanted to let out a scream!  We performed perfectly.  Then it was time  for the boys to do their haka. I was shocked at how they performed. I mean like I almost felt the ground shake their voices were as loud as thunder.

When we finished we lined up and walked with red faces as red as a tomato.  Then we sat inside the whare kai and sang some songs and then we ran to the bus silent as silent as mice.  Then we travelled home.  When we travelled home, I learnt so much I couldn't remember the last thing to write.  It was the best day ever .

It was the first time I had ever set foot  on an amazing marae. I would like to say thank you to Whaea Celeste and William the kaumatua.  They both put all their effort and strength into the powhiri and to teach us new things. Thank you very much for  teaching me a new thing.  You are the best.  The one thing I really remember from being on the marae was how we got welcomed in a traditional maori way.

This is Me

I am Mavis and I like my netbook because it gives us better education and it is better than having a pencil to write with and then it breaks. It will make it faster for us to type something on the computer instead of waiting for a turn. It will be better for us to learn and it will give us more facts for us to learn.
